Elderfit at the LCLC

The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC) understands there are questions regarding the end of the Elderfit program at the facility. We recognize the value this program has provided to many seniors and appreciate the important role physical activity and social connection play in supporting healthy, active lifestyles.

Since 2021, Elderfit has received a significantly discounted rate for access to the aquatic centre in exchange for allowing LCLC members to participate in the program. During the past 18 months of discussions, the LCLC worked diligently and in good faith to explore numerous options that would allow the program to continue operating while ensuring fairness, accountability, and responsible stewardship of a publicly funded community asset. Ultimately, Elderfit was only willing to consider options that either eliminated LCLC member participation or required additional fees for LCLC members to attend.

While we are disappointed that an agreement could not be reached, the decision was made in the best interests of the facility and the community it serves, with careful consideration given to the LCLC’s strategic priorities, financial responsibilities, and commitment to equitable access for all users. In keeping with this commitment, the LCLC has expanded its aquafit offerings.
